we want you to know your own hair

why education is the heart of olas & flamingo — from scalp care to hair classes to routines you'll actually keep

a lot of salons want to be the only ones who can make your hair look good. we want the opposite.

at olas & flamingo, we believe the best thing we can send you home with isn't just great hair — it's the knowledge to keep it that way. every appointment is a small class if you want it to be. we'll show you what we're doing, tell you why we're doing it, and teach you how to get ninety percent of it at your own sink and mirror.

it starts at the scalp

healthy hair isn't a product. it's a scalp.

your scalp is skin — it gets dry, oily, congested, and irritated just like your face does, and everything growing out of it reflects that. so we teach scalp care the way an esthetician teaches skincare: how to actually cleanse (not just foam and rinse), how often to wash for your scalp and not the internet's, when buildup is the problem and when dryness is, and what your scalp is telling you when it flakes or itches.

when you understand your scalp, half the mystery of your hair disappears.

a realistic routine beats a perfect one

we're not going to hand you a twelve-step routine. you won't do it. we wouldn't either.

instead, we build your routine around your real life. how many minutes you honestly have in the morning. whether you air dry or blow dry. how often you actually want to wash. what's already in your shower. then we cut everything that isn't earning its place and show you the two or three steps that genuinely move the needle for your hair type.

a simple routine you do every day will always beat a perfect routine you did twice. that's the whole philosophy.

yes, we teach hair classes

we love this part. beyond the chair, we offer hair classes — hands-on time where we show you the things nobody ever actually teaches you. how to blow dry your own hair without wrecking your arms or your ends. how to use a round brush. where product goes and how much. how to stretch a wash day. how to care for color between visits.

it's your hair. you live with it every day. you should get to feel good handling it.

show, don't just do

in the chair, we narrate. this is how we're sectioning. this is why the heat is on this setting. this is how much product we just used — probably less than you think. watch how the brush turns here.

ask us anything, any time. there are no silly questions about your own hair. the clients who ask the most tend to have the best hair between visits — not by coincidence.

good hair shouldn't depend on us

here's the honest truth: if your hair only looks good the day you leave our salon, we haven't finished the job.

our goal is that day two looks good. day five looks good. the morning of the big meeting, when we're nowhere nearby, looks good. education is how we get you there — one scalp lesson, one routine, one class at a time.
